Every day should be Mandela Day
Saturday, 18 July, is Nelson Mandela Day. This is a day on which we not only commemorate the late Nelson Mandela’s birthday, but it also gives us an opportunity to bring some sunshine in the lives of others while we live out Madiba’s legacy.
As this MISA eDATA was being finalised, the MISA Women’s Forum Northern / Highveld Region had just celebrated the opening of a brand-new library at Fred and Martie’s Soup Kitchen in Claremont Johannesburg as part of their Mandela Day initiatives and many MISA members were planning initiatives in their regions.
Fred and Martie's Soup Kitchen also received a solid start to a novel new way of establishing "mobile" vegetable gardens thanks to a collaboration between the Northern / Highveld Region's Women's Forum and Honda Hatfied, Pretoria, who donated about 40 tyres to the Soup Kitchen to enable the children to start vegetable gardens that they can take home to their families. While Mandela Day serves as a reminder to do something constructive to celebrate Madiba’s legacy and dream for a better South Africa for all, I’d like to share with you Alice Morse Earle’s very true tought: “Every day may not be good... but there's something good in every day.”
Have a wonderful month, and let’s all live like every day is Mandela Day!
Kind regards,
Martlé Keyter, CEO Operations Motor Industry Staff Association (MISA)
