How is osteoporosis diagnosed?

If your doctor feels you are at risk, your bone mass can be measured by means of a bone mineral density (BMD) test.

This gives a definitive score that indicates the density of your bones. This is a painless, non-invasive X-ray procedure that takes about 15 minutes. Your physician can then recommend appropriate treatment. It will also enable monitoring of the effects of treatment if you have regular tests.
