How can YOUR physiotherapist help?

Your physiotherapist can teach you a number of techniques to help manage your symptoms and take control of your breathing.

Some of these include teaching you the correct breathing techniques, teaching you different ‘resting’ positions to help make your breathing easier and teaching you how to incorporate better breathing into your activities.

If you have difficultly clearing your phlegm or find you have a lot of it, your physiotherapist can teach you several simple techniques which can help.

Most importantly, your physiotherapist can advise you regarding a pulmonary rehabilitation programme and exercise. This is tailored to your individual needs and abilities and can help you achieve higher levels of activity.

Although we cannot undo the damage to the lungs, we can improve how the rest of your body responds to activity/exercise and in doing so allowing you to achieve higher activity levels.
